Thorpe schools restricted Tuesday

Jim Thorpe area schools were on a brief lockdown Tuesday following a reported road rage incident.

According to Brian Gasper, superintendent of Jim Thorpe Area School District, the schools decided to go on lockdown for approximately 15 minutes after being notified by Jim Thorpe Police of a "potential situation coming into the school district."Gasper said that the school felt it would lock down the buildings for safety reasons.In addition, St. Joseph's Regional Academy and Carbon Career and Technical Institute also confirmed that their buildings were on lockdown during the same time period.The lockdowns stem from an alleged road rage incident on Route 903 in Penn Forest Township.According to reports, a gun was displayed during the incident, which occurred around 12:30 p.m.Jim Thorpe Police were dispatched to be on the lookout for the vehicle in question, but Police Chief Joseph Schatz said that the vehicle never came into the borough.Pennsylvania State Police are investigating.No other details were available as of press time.
