Dream Come True game Saturday

A benefit sporting event will be held in Walnutport on Saturday to help fulfill the dreams of serious, chronic, and terminally ill children

That's when the Walnutport Playground Association plans to host a special Dream Come True baseball vs. softball game at 5:30 p.m. at the Walnutport Playground.The rain date is Sept. 27.Admission is free, and the refreshment stand will be open. Donations are being accepted.A tricky tray basket raffle will be held during the game, with baskets and gift cards donated from local families and businesses.All of the profits from the event will benefit Dream Come True, the nonprofit organization that helps fulfill the dreams of serious, chronic, and terminally ill children ages 4-17.Event coordinator Julie Wagaman said Gary Andrew started the event about 18 years ago, and ran it until his passing last spring."He held the game every year and brought me on about five years ago," Wagaman said. "After his passing last spring, I decided to continue what he started."Wagaman said the organization attempts to grow the event each year."The goal is to raise money for a good cause," she said. "We also hope (to) show the kids (players) that it can be fun to give back to others."Wagaman said the participants in the game will be about 14 years of age.
