Man hits boy, 5, causes fracture

On Thursday, Mahoning Township police received a report of an assault on a 5-year-old boy.

Daniel Sterling Stahler Jr. of Mahoning Township, the child's uncle, was identified as being responsible for the assault.The child told police he hugged Stahler's dog too hard. Stahler then threw him and hit him with his hands and a door.Stahler fled the residence when the child's mother said she was calling police.Information provided to police showed the child suffered a fracture to the ocular cavity.A warrant was issued charging Stahler with aggravated assault, a felony; simple assault, a misdemeanor; and harassment. Stahler was taken into custody by state police at Lehighton during a vehicle stop near the West End Fairgrounds.Stahler has been lodged in the Carbon County Correctional Facility pending arraignment.
