Palmerton Area Library news

Palmerton Area Library, 402 Delaware Ave., Palmerton, will again present the Tail Waggin' Tutors on Saturday, Oct. 10 from 11 a.m. to noon. This free program is sponsored by Therapy Dogs International, Inc. Children can practice their reading skills by reading out loud to trained therapy dogs and their handlers at the library. This program will continue on the second Saturday of each month. Interested parents should call the library at (610) 826-3424 to register their children for a specific time slot.

The Friends of the Library will be meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. New members are welcome and there is no fee to join. The Friends of the library plan events, volunteer and serve the library in many ways.It's not too late to enter a quilt in the library's third annual Quilt Show. Please have your quilt at the library no later than 10 a.m. on Saturday Oct. 10. The library is also looking for more handcrafted items for the annual handcrafted auction which is held at the library during the month of November. All types of crafts are welcome such as knitted items, woodworking, needlecrafts, Christmas decorations, painted items, ceramics, etc. All items must be new and handmade.The Teen Advisory Group is hard at work planning its third annual Halloween Party, which will be held at the library on Thursday, Oct. 29 from 6-9 p.m. The teens will present a "Who dun nit mystery" for the younger kids and then conclude with games, snacks and a costume party. Call the library for more information.The library is open Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 10-8, Thursday and Friday from 10-5 and Saturday from 9-4. The library has six computers with Internet access for the public to use. The library is a Wi-Fi hot spot sponsored by PenTelaData. The library also has a dedicated games computer with no Internet access for kids to use. This computer is loaded with 20 age appropriate games safe for kids ages 5-12. Just ask at the desk for the games CD's.The Palmerton Area Library has many continuing programs for the public. A weekly story hour for preschoolers is held in the children's room on Fridays at 10:30 a.m. Everyone is welcome. The knitting club meets on the first and third Mondays each month from 6-8 p.m. Anyone interested in learning to knit is invited to attend.The 3rd Monday Book Club meets on the third Monday of each month at noon. November's book selection is The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society and December's selection is The Reader.Every second Tuesday of the month volunteers are needed to help sort and arrange books in the basement book sale.
