Two drug dealers enter guilty pleas

Two men charged with selling drugs in Carbon County entered guilty pleas on Monday in the county court one was sentenced to a county prison term while the other is applying for a state correctional institution program. Both appeared before Judge Steven R. Serfass.

Jim Thorpe saleAdam Joseph Schaeffer, 25, of Jim Thorpe, pleaded to one count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance-heroin.He was arrested on Dec. 20, 2013, by agents of the state attorney general's office.Serfass sentenced him to serve one day less 12 to one day less 24 months in the county prison. The prison term will be followed by 24 months of probation.A confidential informant working for the AG office set up the purchase of heroin from Schaeffer. The sale occurred in the 1100 block of Center Street in Jim Thorpe.Schaeffer told Serfass, "I realize what I did was wrong. I had a lot of time to think about it in the county prison."He said he has three children who are being raised by his mother. He said the mother of the three has drug issues.Serfass also ordered Schaeffer to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, zero tolerance imposed on D&A use, supply a DNA sample, render 200 hours of community service when released from prison, and pay court costs of about $1,000.He was given credit for 217 days already spent in jail on the charge.Sold methJustin Anthony Jacobacci, 32, of Jim Thorpe, pleaded to one count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance-methamphetamine.Serfass deferred sentencing so Jacobacci could apply for placement in the state's Intermediate Punishment Program.The strict program runs for two years with time spent in a state correctional institution, followed by placement in a drug rehabilitation program, followed by intensive outpatient treatment at a halfway house.A person who fails to complete the program would return to court for resentencing.Jacobacci was arrested for an incident on Sept. 11 when he sold meth to a CI working for the state AG office. The sale occurred in the Albrightsville area of Penn Forest Township.Jacobacci said he has a drug addiction problem and hopes the programs offered in the state system can help him.He will be transferred from the county prison to a state prison to be evaluated for the IPP.After the evaluation is completed he will be returned to be sentenced by Serfass.
