Line worker electrocuted

A power line worker was electrocuted Monday when he came in contact with a high-tension wire while working in Towamensing Township.

Carbon County Coroner Bruce Nalesnik identified the victim as Peter Balliet, 42, of Berwick, Columbia County.He was employed by Harland Electric, which is based in Littleton, Massachusetts.Nalesnik said Balliet and another employee were in a bucket working on high-tension wires in the vicinity of Country Junction off Route 209, when the victim came into contact with wire that was supposed to have been grounded.Nalesnik said, "Obviously the wire was not grounded."He said the second man in the bucket was not injured.Nalesnik said he was notified of the incident at 12:30 p.m.The initial call came in at 11:30 a.m.State police at Lehighton said they are conducting a death investigation and had nothing to report this morning. The investigation is ongoing.Nalesnik said an autopsy was scheduled for this morning at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest.
