Frein didn't steal Porsche

Police have determined that Eric Frein, accused of shooting to death a state trooper in September and wounding another, did not steal a Porsche that had been taken from the Pocono Mountains, trooper Connie E. Devens reported early Saturday.

The high-end sports car was reported stolen to Pocono Mountain Regional Police Department on Oct. 18. No details have been released on the owner of the car or the specific address from which it was stolen. The 2012 Porsche Cayman was found about 100 miles north of the Pocono Mountains in Bovina, Delaware County, New York, police said.Frein, 31, an expert marksman and self-styled survivalist, has been the object of an intense manhunt since troopers Cpl. Bryon Dickson and Alex Douglass were ambushed outside the Blooming Grove barracks in Pike County at 110:50 p.m. Sept. 12.Police believe Frein, whom they say holds a grudge against police, shot the troopers, killing Dickson and seriously wounding Douglass, then vanished into the heavily wooded area surrounding the Canadensis home where he lived with his parents.Police are now including the Emerald Lakes development, in Tunkhannock and Tobyhanna townships, in their search for Frein. He was last believed to have been seen in the Swiftwater area, about eight miles away.
