Energy savings agreement approved

Schuylkill County commissioners on Wednesday evening approved a performance-based energy savings agreement with the McClure company, Harrisburg, to install lighting conservation measures at the Emergency Management/911 building and the Adult Probation building for $56,845.

The current lighting fixtures will be replaced with more efficient ones and LED exit signs. The work is expected to be finished by late December or January. In July, commissioners sought proposals for the project, which would guarantee savings on electricity costs. The county in 2013 obtained a $48,484 grant through the North Eastern Pennsylvania Alliance for energy efficient upgrades and retrofits to the buildings. In 2008, the county did a similar project for its prison, nursing home and courthouse, saving $69,200 as of 2012.Also on Wednesday, commissioners also hired Deblin Inc, Mechanicsburg, to repair the county bridge, Spittler Road over Swatara Creek, Pine Grove Township, for $542,321.76. Deblin's bid included cold weather curing of the materials, submitted as an alternate bid.The project is funded through liquid fuels monies. Deblin was among five bidders for the job.Commissioners also awarded a $36,906.82, one-year contract for employee uniforms to Hess Embroidery & Uniforms, Reading.Several groups attended the public meeting, one of two evening meetings held each year by commissioners.
