Library hosts 8th annual Quilt Show

The autumn evenings are beginning to get chilly and nothing feels more cozy than wrapping up in a warm quilt. Even seeing a quilt brings a cozy feeling.

To help you get that warm feeling, visit the Palmerton Area Library's eighth annual Quilt Show from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at the library, located at 402 Delaware Ave., Palmerton. There are many quilts on display from area quilters.Organizers are looking for more quilts for the show.Even if you are not a quilter, if you own quilts, new or antique, and would like to display them for the show, call the library at 610-826-3424.This year, a special quilt made by Miss E.E. Behler in 1868 will be featured. It was donated to the Palmerton Historical Society by Mildred (O'Neill) and Harry Klotz of Lake Harmony. It is a Rolling Stone Pattern. There are 30 blocks and each one has cross-stitched names, presumably from the community. The very last block is cross-stitched with "Miss E.E. Behler June 1 AD 1868 in Trachsville Carbon County Pa."There will be door prizes, vendors, an auction and Best of Show prizes.Someone will win a cross-stitched queen/king size quilt made and donated by Lorraine Zuber of Palmerton. It won a Best of Show at the Carbon County Fair. The event is sponsored by The Sew What Quilt Guild."This show is not only to support our fantastic Palmerton Area Library, but also to support the artistic and creative abilities of the many quilters in our area," said Terri Sheckler, president of The Sew What Quilt Guild."Many times these artists are not recognized for the beautiful artistry they do. Many people feel quilts are not artwork because they don't appear in art galleries or art exhibits. Our show is an art exhibit of quilts.Sheckler said she recently traveled to Paducah, Kentucky, for the national quilt show and saw many beautiful quilts while there."I want people in this area to know that they don't have to travel that far to see quilts, they just need to come to the Palmerton Library Quilt Show."The group meets the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. at the library.New members and visitors are welcome. Those attending meetings are asked to use the side entrance.
