Assault suspects waive hearing

Two suspects in a Lansford robbery and assault were among several defendants who waived the charges to Carbon County Court instead of having hearings.

Charles Lewis Thatcher VII and Jose Juan Perez, both of Lansford, agreed to plead guilty to two misdemeanors and have several felony charges dismissed.The plea agreement will have to be approved by a county judge before taking effect. It was approved by the Carbon County District Attorney's office.They were scheduled to have hearings before District Judge Casimir Kosciolek of Lansford.In addition to being considered for a plea agreement, Judge Kosciolek released the two men on $75,000 unsecured bail. They had been housed at the Carbon County Correctional Facility on $75,000 cash bail.Charges against them stem from an incident at 5:20 p.m. on Aug. 28 on West Patterson Street, Lansford.The arresting officer, Jason A. Helmer of the Lansford Police Department, said that a man, Mike Curry, reported he was the victim of a robbery and an assault.Curry told Helmer Thatcher held him down and began removing his shoes while Perez punched him multiple times. They then took about $30 in cash and a cellular phone, which has a value of about $200.The phone was recovered when Perez was arrested.Others who waived hearings were:• Mason A. Mahoney, 19, of Albrightsville, waived charges of criminal conspiracy, two counts of possession of heroin, and criminal use of communication facility.The incident leading to his arrest by state police at Lehighton barracks happened March 11 at 4 p.m. in Mahoning Township. Mahoney remains in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000 bail.• John Cambria-Raygoza, 27, of Nesquehoning, waived charges related to an accident in which he left the scene. The accident involved another vehicle, with the occupant of the second vehicle injuring a finger.Cambria-Raygoza was charged with accidents involving personal injury, accident involving damage to attended vehicle, two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, duty to give information and render aid, and careless driving.The incident happened at 3:47 p.m. on March 10 at the intersection of Routes 209 and 54 in Nesquehoning.• Joseph Moyer, 61, of Lansford waived charges of driving while under the influence of a controlled substance to court. He will apply for the accelerated rehabilitaty distribution program, will be required to do 15 hours of community service, and make $460 restitution to the borough.• Brian Hill of Coaldale offered a guilty plea to charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while operating privileges are suspended, driving too slow for conditions, and violation of vehicle equipment standards. The charges against him were filed by Nesquehoning police.
