It's addicting

By SHERI RYAN

tneditor@tnonline.comFor my daughters, I purchased Heathergems jewelry, which is produced from heather stems and manufactured exclusively in Pitlochry. For myself, I brought home a couple of small bottles of Bruadar, which is a wonderful single malt Scotch whisky with honey, and for my mother-in-law, a simple box of Highland Blend tea from the Edinburgh Tea and Coffee Company. My mother-in-law, Mary, is a serious and quite devout Tetley tea drinker. My husband told me a story of how he and his sister once hid her precious tea from her and how it nearly cost them their lives.I wasn't sure if I would even be able to get her to try the Scottish tea, but figured even if she didn't, it was the thought that counts.Several months of my persistent forgetfulness went by and that little box of tea sat on a shelf collecting dust, until one day, I decided that I would like to try some Scottish tea myself.Within a week, that box of tea was gone and I found myself feeling rather anxious having to go without!I searched frantically through various grocery stores and specialty stores to no avail. Then I got smart and hit up Amazon and I am happy to report that four boxes of Highland Blend arrived at my doorstep just the other day.One I have vowed to give to my wonderful MIL, and the other three should last me a month, maybe. The problem is I have become so obsessed with this tea that I am drinking it several times per day and it has also replaced (for the most part) my morning cup of joe.I am thinking that I now need to get on some sort of automatic shipment schedule so that I never have to go without my delicious Scottish tea again.I have to have it.Which brings me to my next addiction: "The Walking Dead."When it first came out, I, much like many others at first, thought the whole idea of a "zombie" TV show to be stupid.A year and a half into the series, someone convinced me to watch it on Netflix and I was totally hooked.I couldn't wait for the next half-season to start. The only problem was, I didn't have AMC as part of my programming and didn't have it in my budget at the time to upgrade my package. As the season approached I wanted to put a request on Facebook to see who had AMC and who actually watched the show, but I was a little bit embarrassed to admit that I was so seriously into it.To my delight, one of my friends confessed to being a WD junkie and a new Sunday night tradition was born. Now, you can say what you want about the show but just so you know, for the third straight week and for the fourth time this season, ratings for "The Walking Dead" have surpassed Sunday Night Football.Ha!If you are a faithful reader of my columns, then you know how I feel about televised football and how frustrating it can be when you find yourself essentially a football widow for a day or even an entire weekend.Well, I am happy to announce that my husband has crossed over to the dark side and has become Walking Dead-head too.Hearing him say that he would rather go to watch the show than stay at home for the Steelers' game was almost as endearing as hearing him say, "I do."#winning!
