• St. John's United Church of Christ at 15 N. Second St. in Slatington is offering a free Thanksgiving dinner from noon to 2 p.m. on Thursday. No reservations are required but are appreciated. Call the church office at 610-767-5554 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday.• Effort UMC will once again host a Thanksgiving Day dinner for those who are alone or are hungry. Dinner will be served at 2 p.m. For information, call the church at 570-629-1890.• A Thanksgiving feast will be celebrated for those in need or just missing family, and will include fellowship and a free meal with all the trimmings. Sponsored by Heaven's Helping Hands, the meal will be served on Thanksgiving Day from 1 to 4 p.m. at Cornerstone Community Church, 388 Polk Township Road in Kresgeville, next to the Pleasant Valley Elementary School. The race will begin at 9 a.m. at The Palmerton Park with registration being held from 7:45 to 8:45 a.m.Closings• Rep. Doyle Heffley's offices in Lehighton and Albrightsville will close on at 2 p.m. Wednesday. They will remain closed on Thursday and Friday. The offices will reopen on Dec. 1. Heffley's satellite office in Weatherly will also be closed on Thanksgiving.• The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced that all driver's license and photo driver's licensing its full-service center in Harrisburg, will be closed Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday.• The Lansford borough office will be closed Thursday and Friday in observance of Thanksgiving. The tax office will be open 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday.
