Police: Jim Thorpe man took two vehicles, gun

A Jim Thorpe man is being sought in connection with a home break-in and the theft of vehicles.

State police at Lehighton are looking for Avery Marshal Ziegenfus, 20.Troopers said he is being sought in connection with the entry to the home of Vera T. Schaffer, 90, of 416 White St., Bowmanstown, that occurred sometime between 11 a.m. on Wednesday and 7 a.m. on Thursday.Troopers said Ziegenus entered the home by kicking in the basement door. Once inside he removed the victim's purse, a Smith & Wesson revolver, and cash.Ziegenus then took Schaffer's green Ford Escort.Troopers said Ziegenfus is also wanted in connection with the theft of a F350 truck belonging to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. The truck was stolen and later recovered along Railroad Street, in Bowmanstown, at 1:06 p.m. Thursday.Troopers indicate the PennDOT truck was stolen before the entry to the Schaffer home.The stolen Ford Escort was recovered later Thursday along Long Run Road in Franklin Township. Troopers believe that Ziegenfus is now driving a stolen blue Nissan Sentra bearing state registration plate JLW7860.Anyone with information concerning these incidents or Ziegenfus' whereabouts is asked to call troopers at 610-681-1850.
