Pleasant Valley HS showcases talented students

Pleasant Valley High School did indeed prove it's got talent at the National Honor Society's first PV's Got Talent show Thursday night.

The show had 12 entertaining acts.But there could only be one winner, and that was senior Elizabeth Gillen. She sang Lana Del Rey's "Oh Say Can You See" and accompanied herself on the piano. She won a $25 gift card to The Bagel Experience and will receive a custom-made trophy with her picture on it.Second-place act was the duet of Emily Moody and Randi Hogden, both freshmen. They sang OneRepublic's "Counting Stars" and won a $15 gift card to The Bagel Experience.The other performers were: Sophomore Ezmeralda Fernandez sang Becky G's "I'm a Problem"; senior Hayley Blanding and sophomore Kurt Ammerman sang and accompanied themselves on guitar with "Sunday Morning" by Maroon 5; senior Alyssa Ramsey sang Ariana Grande's "My Everything"; senior Sam Edwards sang One Direction's "Strong"; junior Josefa Collins demonstrated beatboxing, a form of vocal percussion; senior Jason Bauer solved 15 Rubik's cubes; sophomore Deanna Kahn sang Avicii's "Addicted to You"; The Vincent Experience featuring senior Vincent Piccioti and junior Grant Wagner performed "Commando" by The Ramones; freshman Branna Cicalese sang Taylor Swift's "Eyes Open"; Take Five, an a cappella group of junior Michael Kaye, senior Hayley Blanding, senior Marcell McKenzie, senior Alyssa Irving and senior Alyssa Ramsey, sang Pentatonix's "Run To You."After all the acts, the audience voted for their favorite, either by texting the act's code or marking a paper ballot.The popular local band The Red Pandas performed before and after the competition. The band consists of band leader and vocalist Rachel Weld, Jacob Clifford, Bryan Iadisenia, Gabby Hockfield and Jonathan Shillinger.The event raised $775 for the Dave Thomas Foundation, which works to find forever homes for foster children who have no place to live once they turn 18 years old. All the leftovers from the concession stand were donated to a local food bank.
