HARRISBURG Local veterans can apply now to receive new specialty plates created earlier this year to honor those who earned special recognition in the U.S. military, according to Sen. David G. Argall.

Act 109 of 2014 created license plates for Army veterans who earned the Combat Infantry Badge during their tour of duty. The legislation was later amended to include a wide range of other military honors, including those who earned the Combat Action Ribbon (Marines, Navy and Coast Guard), Combat Action Badge (Air Force), Combat Action Medal (Army) and Combat Medical Badge (Army medics).The bill also included specialty plates for Merchant Marines who served during wartime, as well as a variety of new designations honoring charitable causes.Applications for the new military plates are available on the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation's Driver and Vehicle Services webpage at
