Elderly woman's body found near brush fire

SHEPPTON (AP) Police say the body of an elderly woman was found in the yard of her northeastern Pennsylvania home after emergency crews arrived to fight a brush fire.

East Union Township police chief Tony Harris told the (Hazleton) Standard-Speaker that the cause of the woman's death hasn't been determined.Safety officer Dennis Antonelli Jr. of the Sheppton-Oneida Fire Company said crews were dispatched to the fire in woods in Sheppton at 12:50 p.m. Tuesday.He said it appeared that the woman had been raking leaves at the time of her death but that wasn't completely clear.Her name wasn't immediately released.Fire crews said the blaze had been extinguished but remained on the scene for several hours putting out the last burning embers.
