Two Mahoning residents facing drug charges

Two Mahoning Township residents are facing drug related charges as a result of an incident on Friday.

Police said that at 11:52 a.m., on Route 443, a Ford Ranger traveling east on pulled into the path of a Mahoning Township Police Department SUV.The vehicle then turned onto Mall Road into the path of an oncoming westbound midsize pickup. The pickup was forced to brake and swerve as a result.Police said the driver, Jason Smith of Mahoning Township, stated he had used heroin in addition to other medications. He also admitted that his license was DUI suspended, and he was on probation.The passenger of the vehicle, David Smith (Jason's brother), also of Mahoning Township was found in possession of heroin, police said. David also admitted being on probation.Jason has been charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, driving under suspension-DUI Related, stop signs and yield signs, vehicle turning left, and careless driving. Results of a blood test are pending.David has been charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance.Both were arraigned before District Judge Casimir Kosciolek in Lansford. Bail was set at $2,000 straight each. They were both committed to the Cabon County Prison.
