Schuylkill County commissioners on Wednesday approved a number of personnel moves.

Emergency Management: John Blickley, Frackville, was promoted to the position of deputy emergency management coordinator at $49,923. Half of the salary is funded through an Emergency Management Performance Grant.Tax Assessment: Jim Gustas, Pottsville, transferred from field appraiser to interim field appraiser at $21.55 an hour. Lee Raring, Auburn, was transferred from solid waster/recycling coordinator to field appraiser at $17.14 an hour.Commissioner George Halcovage cast the sole no vote on creating the interim position. After the public meeting, he said that there would be three appraisers without the interim appraiser. He wants to make sure there's a need for that fourth appraiser.A new contract, settled last month, eliminated employees' ability to use sick and vacation time as paid time after he or she leaves the job. The interim appraiser position provides an employee to fill the job. Each appraiser has his or her own area to cover."I had wanted them the split up that fourth location among the three other assessors, at least until August, when Gustas officially retires. I don't know if there is a need for a fourth tax assessor, and I have to answer to the taxpayers. If by that time we could see there was a need for an additional assessor, then it'd be great.Rest Haven: Wage adjustments for part-time nurses' aides Stephanie Foose, Schuylkill Haven; Amber Melochick, Pine Grove; Keshia Ruff, Orwigsburg; and Sandra Mesa, Pottsville, all from part-time nurses' aide trainees.
