Franklin Township is considering its options regarding police coverage.
In a meeting May 20, the Franklin Township Board of Supervisors discussed budget issues, and gained authorization to investigate the possibility of contracting with a neighboring municipality for police services.
"It was done before," township secretary Brenda Neeb said. "We checked with local departments in area to see if they would be interested in becoming one police department, but it turned out not to be cost effective to the boroughs and townships."
Other options regarding the budget are to leave the police department as is, to downsize, or worst-case scenario, to disband the police department and rely on the state police for coverage.
There is no set date for the decision to be made.
