Long-time Coaldale fire chief resigns, cites cyber-bullying

Coaldale Fire Chief Rich Marek resigned Thursday, after 39 years in the department, including 24 as chief.

Friday night Marek put much of the blame on "Facebook drama" and "cyber-bullying.""There were things going on outside the department, personal issues, which were brought into the department where they shouldn't be," Marek said. "It affected the way we (the firefighters) could work together.""I couldn't be there anymore with the lack of respect and the grade school stuff," he added. "There was a lot of nonsense with peoples' wives and girlfriends being cowards, doing mean things to each other and hiding behind Facebook."Marek said his resignation from the fire department is official and final. He added that he'll write a formal letter of resignation so that Coaldale Borough Council can act on it during the meeting June 10.Council President Angela Krapf said that she hadn't received anything official regarding Marek's resignation and would reserve comment until she has.
