Pleasant Valley lauds top students

Pleasant Valley High School honored its finest at its 33rd annual Academic Awards program Thursday.

Each department gave recognition to its top students.Principal John Gress, announced the 2014 graduating class's valedictorian as Patrick Rimple and salutatorian Dana McAllister.Rimple will receive a $6,000 A. Mattioli Scholarship and McAllister a $4,000 A. Mattioli Scholarship.Gress also presented the Principal's Award. He said there were many seniors worthy but two stood out who stood out the most for displaying character and leadership. Those awards went to Kristina Adams and Austin Yoffredo.Christopher Fisher, assistant to the superintendent, presented the David G. Argall Good Citizenship Award to two seniors, Rebecca Anglemyer and Mackenzie Dorney.Robert Hines, associate principal, presented Patrick Rimple with the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution and Aracelis Velez the National Achievement Scholarship.Rick Rimple, physical science teacher, announced the Beth Paul Scholarship to a senior who plans to enter the field of education is Melissa Russo.Tresa Malligo, assistant principal, presented the Ray Kroc McDonald's Achievement Recognition Award to Bettina Focht and Perfect Attendance for all four years of high school to Valerie Gama.SSgt. Georgia, a U.S. Marine Corps recruiter, announced Patrick Rimple and Dana McAllister as recipients of the Marine Corps Scholastic Excellence Awards. They are: Ryan Rimple, ninth grade; Gabriel Schaefer, ninth; Celine Lawrence, 10th; Nicolette Sonmez, 10th; and Ethan Gordon, 12th.At the end of the evening's presentations, Gress congratulated the award winners and reminded the students that it is important to have a connection to family and community."I don't have a doubt that you will be successful. The foundation has been laid."
