Drainage project contract awarded

Schuylkill County commissioners on Wednesday chose a Slatington company to make stormwater drainage improvements to a Coaldale street.

With Commissioner George F. Halcovage absent, Commissioner Gary J. Hess and Chairman Frank J. Staudenmeier awarded the $33,682.50 contract to Dirt Work Solutions for the project along Phillips Street.Dirt Works was the lowest of five bidders for the job, which is a 2012 Community Development Block Grant project.Other bidders were Lehigh Asphalt Paving & Construction Co., $79,570; RGC Development LP, $45,511.50; Schuylkill Paving Inc., $55,770; and Sikora Brothers Paving Inc., $69,735.In other actions affecting Coaldale, commissioners approved a $1,800 increase in the cost of repairs for a demolition project at 292 S. Third St.The project involves a two-story wood frame home turned over to the borough last year for delinquent property tax.In other matters Wednesday, commissioners approved yearlong agreements with the following providers for the county'sChildren and Youth Services agency:• David O'Connell, Pottsville, for psychological evaluation at a per-unit rate of $150 and in-person testimony at a per-unit rate of $175.• The Summit Academy, Pittsburgh, for Summit residential at a daily rate of $128.65; a daily diagnostic unit of $159.98; and a daily drug and alcohol treatment rate of $209.• Youth Service Bureau, State College, for Stepping Stone transitional living at a daily rate of $121; Stormbreak at a daily rate of $159; and Zerby Gap at a daily rate of $163.Commissioners also approved an addendum to a contract with Concern, of Fleetwood, Berks County, that adds in-home medical coordination services at a per-unit rate of $54.They also approved thefollowing people as site supervisors for the juvenile probation office from May 1 through Dec. 31 at a per-unit rate of $9.50: AlexisWallauer, Ashland; Zachary Williams, Pottsville; Alex Palubinsky, Ringtown; Wesley Pryce, Pottsville; Steven Delinko, Pottsville; Sarah Groody, Ashland; Emily Grub, Orwigsburg; John Mika, Tower City; Keandra Koons, Pine Grove; Devin Heckman, Pottsville; Scott Houser, Ashland; and Kody Rittenbaugh, Pine Grove.Commissioners also approved the re-appointment of Beverly Weikel to a three-year term on the agency advisory board, effective May 14 through May 14, 2017.
