In order to help boost donations for area food banks, the House of Representatives approved legislation this week sponsored by Rep. Julie Harhart (R-Lehigh/Northampton) designating Saturda, as National Association of Letter Carriers Food Drive Day in Pennsylvania.

Harhart said this is the 22nd anniversary of the nation's largest single-day food drive. Last year, local letter carriers delivered more than 330,000 pounds of food to Second Harvest and its member agencies for distribution to families in Carbon, Lehigh, Monroe, Northampton, Pike and Wayne counties. The drive collected 74.4 million pounds for families across the entire nation.For more information, go to
