Spring concert

The annual Tamaqua Area High/Middle School Spring Vocal Concert will be presented on Thursday in the school district auditorium. Doors will open at 6:45 pm. and the music will begin at 7:30 p.m.The annual event features performances by the Middle School General and Select Chorus, the Senior High Concert Choir and the Jazz and Concert Chorale. This year's accompanists include Olivia Behr, Hannah Betz, Andrew Delpais, Antonetta Gerace, Francesca Gerace, Cailyn Joseph, Claire Lewis, Patrick McMullen, Sierra Petrucci, Faith Roberts and Olivia Stanek.The choirs are directed by John Buglio.Before the concert, there will be an art show presented by the middle school students from 7-7:30 p.m. in the hallway outside of the auditorium. Students from sixth, seventh and eighth grades will have their art work displayed, including paintings, 3-D interiors, murals, sketches, masks, group projects, cultural art, tiles, watercolor, fashion design, collages and more.Chamber hoursThe Tamaqua Chamber of Commerce began its summer hours schedule May 5. The office, located at 114 W. Broad St., Tamaqua, will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Wednesday hours will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.For more information on any chamber activity, call 570-668-1880.Senior citizensThe Tamaqua Senior Citizens group met May 1 with 59 members in attendance. President Melody Weicker conducted the business session and Jacque Patrick provided the invocation "Time To Rejoice."Reports were offered by treasurer Penny Schlorf, including the minutes from the previous meeting in the absence of the secretary. Several upcoming events were discussed, including a Chinese auction before the May 8 meeting; canned goods collection to benefit the Tamaqua food banks; May 27 trip to Port Clinton; June 11 trip to Knoebel's Grove; and a June 18 trip to the Hollywood Casino.The meeting concluded with cards and social games.The seniors meet at 1 p.m. every Thursday, at the Masonic Lodge, located on Route 54 (east) in Hometown. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The center is handicap accessible.St. Peter's UnionSunday worship services are held at 9 a.m. in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. This Sunday's service will include a Joyous Noise Offering. Sunday school classes are held at 10:15 a.m.Also this Sunday, the Confirmation class will meet at 11:30 a.m.; Daisies, Scouts and Brownies will meet at 6 p.m.Activities for next week include: Tuesday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m., Mother-Daughter Tea at 6:30 p.m.; Wednesday, retirees meet at 10 a.m.; Thursday, cherub choir rehearses at 6:30 p.m., junior choir practices at 7 p.m. and senior choir meets at 7:30 p.m.SS. Peter and PaulThe Holy Name Society of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church will meet at 8 p.m. on Thursday. The meeting will be preceded by a Mass at 7:30 p.m.
