The Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce annual dinner, held last week, was one of the organization's most successful gatherings to date, directors said during a meeting Thursday.
A vital part of that success is the chamber's 2014 Community Progress Report booklet, which was sold out with advertising, gathered by board President Pat Freeh-Stefanek and newly appointed Treasurer Linda Marchalk. The event, held at the Hometown Fire Company, was well-attended by members and family who turned out in support of Tom Banditelli Sr., who received the Joseph M. Plasko Citizenship Award.
During the meeting, Banditelli said that so far, the chamber's annual Trout Fishing Derby has netted $1,200. Trout are still being stocked in the Little Schuylkill River by Trout Unlimited, which pairs with the chamber to hold the event, chaired by Banditelli.
Members discussed future chamber events, including the Sept. 10 Annual Golf Tournament at Mountain Valley Golf Course. Gar Thomas, who chairs the event, said he is seeking sponsors for individual hole tee-off areas, as well as other spots connected with the tournament around the clubhouse. The cost to sponsor is $100, and anyone interested should call 570-668-6439.
The annual summer Concert series, held from 6-8 p.m. on the first and third Thursdays in June, July and August, is booked with performers including bluegrass, classic rock, acoustic jazz, and rhythm and blues. The performances begin June 6 and are held on the platform at the railroad station in front of Vonz Restaurant. The chamber is still seeking sponsorships of the individual performances.
