Campaign targets aggressive drivers

Beginning next week, the North Central Highway Safety Network will be conducting a six-week slate of activities designed to combat aggressive driving.

Carol Alonge, District 5 Coordinator, announced the activities as part of a state wide Aggressive Driving Enforcement Campaign. Law enforcement officers throughout PennDOT's District 5, which includes Tamaqua, West Penn, Rush and Schuylkill Townships, will focus on distracted driving, speeding and work zone safety. Pennsylvania State Police will also be taking part in this effort. Motorists exhibiting unsafe driving behaviors will be stopped and cited. Aggressive driving behaviors include driving too fast for conditions, following too closely, careless driving, running red lights, etc.Highways to be closely monitored included Interstate 81 and state routes 61, 309, 901, 209, 183, 895 and 54.
