Pleasant Valley presents 'Annie'

Pleasant Valley High School will be performing the delightful Broadway musical, "Annie," directed by Dan and Marcie Mulligan at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 28 and Saturday, March 29 and 2 p.m. Sunday, March 30.

Set in 1932 in New York City, "Annie" tells the story of the captivating redheaded orphan (Rebecca Anglemyer), who lives in the miserable orphanage with her friends (Kacey Burrus, Lexi Colon, Amina Jones, Deanna Kahn, Elizabeth Larregui, Victoria Lindner, Angelica Ramirez, and Kayla Wolf), run by the nasty Miss Hannigan (Hayley Blanding). After she roams the streets one night in search of her parents and meets her dog, Sandy, and her friends at Hooverville, her life takes a sudden turn when she is chosen by secretary Grace Farrel (Lydia Shank) to spend Christmas with millionaire, Oliver Warbucks (Doug Stangl).As Annie charms the hearts of the household staff, including Mrs. Greer (Sarah DeLucca) and Drake (Kurt Ammerman), Oliver Warbucks also learns to love this wonderful girl. He even takes her to see a movie, and hears the sights and sounds of Broadway, including a star-to-be (Rachel Wenrich). Annie even gives hope to the Great Depression in her rendition of "Tomorrow" with Franklin Delano Roosevelt (Anthony Zarzycki) and his Cabinet.Warbucks decides to offer a money reward to Annie's parents if they would come and prove their identity. Rooster, Hannigan's evil brother (Grant Wagner), and his girlfriend, Lily (Oksana Picca) plan to impersonate her parents with Miss Hannigan's help to get the reward, and to get rid of Annie. With the help of the President, Annie ends up having a family who loves her.Other students in the cast are: Kristian Henriksen-Shea, Bryan Falcone, William Anderson, Lexi Colon, Sabrina Meli, Samantha Catania, Amber Harrison, Shay Warner, Sydney Schrack, Vincent Picciotti, Nathaniel Rhoads, Elizabeth Gillen, Aeryainne Whidden, Ally Brown, Krystal Zelinksi, Dylan Firestone, Elric Caponsacco, Erin Tortora, Regan Welkey, and Luis Silva.This year's musical has over 60 students involved: the 42-member cast, including the dog, Sandy; 21-member orchestra, directed by John DeVivo; 14-member stage crew, headed up by stage manager Sam Peterson with assistant managers, Amanda Gary and Jake Tartamella."Our rendition of "Annie" features several sets and about 100 costumes, and the songs and choreography are meant to bring smiles to your faces. This wonderful musical shows us hope and love through the redheaded orphan Annie and inspires us to open our hearts to optimism for "Tomorrow," says Dan Mulligan, director.Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students.
