Chamber announces annual fishing derby

Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he might catch a tagged trout, and win a fishing trip to Ontario.

Members of the Tamaqua Chamber of Commerce met Thursday morning, and encouraged anglers to register for their annual Trout Derby, April 19. Participants must pay the $10 registration fee to qualify for prizes associated with tagged fish.Forms are available at the Chamber office, and also at Tom's Auto & Marine, 250 S. Greenwood St.Last year, Chamber executive director Linda Yulanavage said someone caught a tagged fish with the prize of a fishing trip to Caiger's Resort on the St. Lawrence River, Ontario, Canada. But, the angler hadn't registered for the derby and didn't get the trip. The annual fishing derby precedes the Chamber's annual dinner, scheduled for April 23. The board hasn't finalized the choice of locations for the dinner.Board member Jack Kulp said that he's ready to begin scheduling musicians and bands for the annual Chamber Concert Series. The series runs on the first and third Thursdays from June through September, and will be held at the Tamaqua Community Art Center's performing arts hall. The TCAC is seeking sponsors at $325 for the concerts.
