PennDOT addresses bridge traffic

Rep. Doyle Heffley (R-Carbon) recently met with PennDOT officials, members of the Carbon County Chamber of Commerce, staff from Sen. John Yudichak's (D-Luzerne-Carbon) office and business owners in an effort to address traffic concerns regarding repairs to the McCall Bridge in Lehighton.

"I have received numerous phone calls from businesses which have been impacted by the project so we brought together the various entities to see if we could alleviate some of the concerns," Heffley said. "This is a major bridge in Carbon County with many roadways coming together, which leads to heavy traffic congestion in the area."PennDOT officials report that the project is on schedule.Additional signs will be placed to keep cars from blocking intersections near the project.Officials will also investigate reported timing issues with an automated traffic light in the construction zone. They are asking motorists to move through the area at a steady pace, staying alert of traffic signals and signage.Heffley said. "We are all aware of the necessity of this project to ensure public safety. I have received a large number of calls to my district offices from businesses which have been impacted by the project and I wanted to see what could be done to help."The state representative also addressed business concerns in the area."These are businesses essential to the economic fabric of Carbon County," Heffley said. "Some have been a part of Lehighton for generations. Traffic on all lanes of this bridge will be back to normal in the beginning of September and I hope between now and then, everyone can come together to address these issues."
