CCTI makes personnel decisions

The Carbon Career & Technical Institute's Joint Operating Committee on Thursday kept Robert T. Yurchak of Nesquehoning as solicitor for the 2014-15 fiscal year. He'll be paid a retainer of $5,000.

The committee also retained Margaret Kalogerakis of Albrightsville as coordinator of school improvement at $35,000 on a 200-day contract for the 2014-15 school year, effective Aug. 20.Under the contract, she'll pay $65 a month for health benefits, effective July 1.Kalogerakis has served as CSI for nine years. The committee noted that she has been instrumental in student achievement gains in PSSA and NOCTI testing.In other actions, the committee:• Agreed to keep Angelique Yaich as instructor for the Carbon Alternative High School Diploma Program for the 2014-15 year. She'll work six hours a day, for 200 days, both morning and afternoon classes.Yaich will earn $27.75 an hour, with health and other benefits. She, too, will pay $65 a month for health benefits, beginning July 1.• Hired Marty Keenly of Summit Hill as part-time technology coordinator for a total of 76 days from Aug. 20 through June 30, 2015, at $210 per day.• Granted a professional employee contract and tenure to drafting technology instructor Jeremy Pease and to English teacher Michael Wildoner.• Approved schoolwide co-curricular activities and student club/organization advisers for the 2014-15 school year: SkillsUSA major adviser, Kevin Kuehner; DECA major adviser, Stephanie Barto; HOSA major adviser, Michele Dominic; SADD major adviser, Rebecca Schaeffer; student council major adviser, Kevin Sowa; National Technical Honor Society major adviser, Nadine Harbove.Wildoner will also be the adviser for the class of 2016, and Barto for the class of 2015. The adviser for the class of 2017 has yet to be selected.Michele Klock will be the yearbook major adviser, and Courtney McCarroll and Kevin Sowa the SkillsUSA assistant advisers.The committee also appointed Gloria Bench and George Cope as teacher mentors on an as-needed basis for the 2014-2015 school year at $750 each. Also on Thursday, the committee agreed to operate a GED testing program for the 2014-2015 school year. The chief examiner will be Claudia Derby; examiner Elizabeth Schlecht; alternate examiners Deborah Enterline and Melinda Graver.The school will also continue to be an operator consortium member of PA CareerLink Carbon County. The designation strengthens the position of CCTI as an educational service provider for adults.
