Newspaper drive

The monthly newspaper drive by members of St. John's Lutheran Church will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2. There will be one sweep of the Palmerton, Aquashicola, and Little Gap areas beginning at 8 a.m.Papers should be bundled and placed within sight of the collectors. They are collecting papers only, no magazines. The shiny inserts are acceptable. They also need grocery size brown paper bags.Persons missed, or those wishing to dispose of papers throughout the month, may take them to the garage across from the church on Fireline Road, which is always open. In case of bad weather, the drive will be held the following Saturday. Please note there will be no paper drive in December.Knitting ClubThe Knitting Club will meet from 6-8 p.m., Monday, Nov. 4, at the Palmerton Area Library. It's free and open to anyone interested in knitting and crocheting on all skill levels. The club meets the first and third Monday of each month.Successful blood driveSeventy potential donors registered at the Miller-Keystone blood drive on Oct. 25, and 57 pints were collected. The drive was sponsored by Holly and Robert Fell, and Leon George II.The following donors reached gallon levels: Thomas Davies, 23 gallons; Dwight Hawk, 12 gallons; Richard Bobal, 7 gallons; Dennis Bonser and Brian Wanamaker, 5 gallons each; Tracy Carey and Janice Stroup, 3 gallons each; Susan Williams, 2 gallons, and Ana Melo and Wanda Solt, 1 gallon each. There were 3 first-time donors.Volunteers included Pam Andrews, George Ashman, Mary Beth Beers, Romaine Biege, Harry Brown, Jane Cervenak, "Honey" Cyr, Arlene Dombrosky, Linda Finley, Jean Fritzinger, Shirley Greene, Jean Halmi, Anita Harry, Betty Hartman, "Bif" Hayes, Cindy Heimbach, Roseann Heydt, Anastasia Hinkle, Marian Hoffner, Susan Hunsicker, Nancy Kresge, Paula Lendvay, Shirley Neff, Helen Nonnemaker, Darlene and Richard Nothstein, Carol Papay, Evelyn Plechavy, Marge Porambo, Gwen Rodrigues, Terri Sebelin, Betty Steigerwalt, Susan Steigerwalt, Mary Taschler, Brian Wanamaker, Annette Wargo, Tara Wargo and Joan Wivell.There will be a Miller-Keystone blood drive at Palmerton High School Nov. 15, open only to faculty and eligible students The next community blood drive will be Dec. 27 at the First United Church of Christ.
