A sentencing date has been set for former Coaldale mayor Richard P. Corkery, who was convicted last week on 27 counts of child pornography.

Corkery, 75, of Coaldale, will appear before Judge Steven R. Serfass at 9 a.m. on Sept. 16.The 27 counts come under the provisions of Megan's Law, meaning Corkery must undergo a sexual offenders evaluation by the state sexual offenders assessment board. The evaluation is to determine if Corkery is a violent sexual predator. If the board finds he is, then he must register for life as a sexual offender. If the board does not find him a violent sexual predator, he still faces a registration period of between 15 and 25 years, according to court personnel.Corkery was convicted following a two-day trial of all counts filed against him by Nesquehoning Police Chief Sean Smith.Smith charged Corkery with viewing child pornography on a computer at radio station WLSH when he was employed by the station. The acts occurred during Feb. 15 to March 28, 2011.The 27 counts are all felonies, which carry a maximum sentence of up to seven years in prison and a fine of $15,000 on each count. The minimum sentence that can be imposed is between probation and nine months on each count.Serfass also can run the sentence on each count concurrent to each other or consecutive to each other.
