Troop 555 honors Eagle Scout Jake McGeehan

During a recent Eagle Scout Court of Honor, 17-year-old Jake McGeehan of Penn Forest Township was recognized for his achievements and years of dedication to Boy Scouts as he earned his wings.

The ceremony was held in the hall at Penn Forest Township Fire Company No. 1, which is home to Troop 555."Jake has always exhibited the 'Scouting spirit,'" Scoutmaster Ray Attewell said of McGeehan."He always had a positive attitude and he really needed it to overcome the massive Eagle Scout project he undertook."That project was the construction of three, 12-foot by 60-foot bocci courts in Baer Memorial Park in Lehighton, for use in the Special Olympics."We are all so grateful to Jake for his undertaking such a massive project," said Maureen Foster of the Carbon County Special Olympics."These courts were used by our athletes for training and for competition."There were a number of Scouting and local dignitaries on hand to congratulate McGeehan, including state Rep. Doyle Heffley.Heffley, an Eagle Scout himself, noted that not only did the Special Olympics benefit from McGeehan's project, but that the courts had been pressed into use in the recent Senior Games as well.McGeehan is the younger son of Jack and Robin McGeehan.Tyler McGeehan, 20, Jake's older brother, is also an Eagle Scout, and served as master of ceremonies at the event.McGeehan is a member of Troop 555 of Penn Forest Township. He is a senior at Jim Thorpe Area High School where he is the president of the National Honor Society.McGeehan will be attending Penn State University's main campus in the fall, where he will be majoring in mechanical engineering.McGeehan's grandmother, Shirley Borgos was also in attendance to celebrate his accomplishment.
