West Penn awards road work bids

During a meeting Monday morning, West Penn Township awarded bids for road work totalling more than $200,000, but tabled bids for pipe material.

AMS, Center Valley, was the lone bidder for seal coating at $135,951. Lehigh Asphalt, Tamaqua, got the bid for stone and asphalt, with a bid of $75,375. The only other bidder was EJB, West Lawn. For the stone and asphalt bids, the supervisors used a "hauling cost justification" to determine which bidder was lowest. Chairman Jim Akin said that mileage costs, as well as pickup and delivery costs, are included in the calculation.Seal coating will be done on Park, Mush Dahl, Andreas, Archery Club, Valley, Evergreen and Hemlock roads, and Doe, Fawn and Oak lanes.Akin and Supervisor Ted Bogosh, who is roadmaster for the township, attended the meeting. Akin and Bogosh were not satisfied with the response for pipe material bids and voted to readvertise, with bids to be opened at 10 a.m. June 23.
