At least on this day, their moves to the hoop took a back seat to a drive of a different kind.

Nearly 170 individuals attended the Palmerton High School Basketball Team (boys and girls) Dodge Booster Club Fundraiser free test drive Saturday in the high school parking lot.By the time the event had concluded, $3,400 had been raised, which was $700 more than the $2,700 figure from last year's fundraiser, said Jim Nemeth, president of the Palmerton High School Basketball Parents' Club.Nemeth said the funds raised through the event hosted by the PHS Basketball Parents' Club will be split evenly between the boys' and girls' programs."We'd like to thank everybody from the Palmerton area that came out to sponsor this for the kids," Nemeth said. "We're very appreciative to everybody who came out."Sponsored by Rentschler Chrysler Jeep Dodge, vehicles were available for parents, faculty and guests to take a five-minute test drive in a Dodge Caravan, Journey, Durango or Dart.Afterward, a brief survey was completed based on the experience. For their time and input, Dodge will donate $20 to the high school basketball teams.Team members also conducted a bake sale as well.
