State police seeking Schuylkill woman

A Schuylkill County woman is being sought by police on multiple charges.

State police at Frackville said they are seeking the whereabouts of Jennifer M. Eckert, 39, of New Philadelphia.According to troopers on May 14 at 10:04 a.m. troopers said Eckert and a passenger were traveling along Mountain Road, toward New Philadelphia, in Blythe Township, where state police had set up a stationary traffic safety checkpoint.Eckert, operating a black Dodge Avenger, made a U-turn near the checkpoint and committed a traffic violation. Eckert was stopped for the violation, and during the stop, she fled in her vehicle. Troopers gave pursuit from that location into the mountains north of Middleport.Eckert abandoned the vehicle on a dirt road and fled on foot into a wooded area. Evidence was taken at the scene and the vehicle towed to the Frackville barracks.On July 3 criminal charges were filed against Eckert with District Judge David A. Plachko of Port Carbon, charging her with several counts of violating the state drug act concerning controlled substances. Eckert was also charged with several summary traffic violations including fleeing or attempting to elude police, stop sign violation, driving a vehicle at an unsafe speed, careless driving, reckless driving, restraint systems and exhibiting driver's license on demand.At the time of the May 14 incident there was an active warrant for Eckert's arrest issued to the county sheriff's department for failure to appear for a court proceeding.Anyone who knows the whereabouts of Eckert is asked to call troopers at 570-874-5300.
