Teen driver cited after Carbon crash

A teen driver was cited following a two-vehicle crash that occurred in Carbon County. It was one of three crashes investigate by state police at Lehighton.

Troopers said a 17-year-old male from Coaldale was driving eastbound on Route 895 in East Penn Township at 5:18 p.m. on Sunday behind another vehicle. The other vehicle slowed down causing the teen to swerved to miss the vehicle.The front of the teen's vehicle, a 2002 BMW, struck the rear of the second vehicle. The BMW then went onto the berm and over an embankment making impact with shrubbery causing damage to the right front of the car. The other driver did not stop and continued eastbound. The BMW had to be towed from the scene.The teen and his two passengers, two males, a 17-year-old from Summit Hill, and a 15-year-old from Lansford, were not injured.Troopers said the teen was cited for driving a vehicle at an unsafe speed.A one-vehicle crash was reported about 10:50 a.m. on Sunday in front of 171 Old Route 115, in Saylorsburg.Troopers said Gary John Sless of Andover, New Jersey, was driving a Toyota Avalon northbound when a deer entered the road in front of him. He was unable to avoid striking the deer. The deer struck the windshield of the Toyota shattering it. Sless was not injured but the Toyota had to be towed from the scene.A one-vehicle crash was reported at 5:38 p.m. on Monday along Kunkletown Road in Ross Township.Troopers said Jason A. Gill, 16, of Saylorsburg, was driving a 2002 Ford F150 pickup truck westbound and approaching Weir Lake Road, when the truck skidded out of control, crossing over the eastbound lane and onto the berm where it crashed into a tree.Gill sustained a minor injury and was treated at the scene by West End ambulance personnel. The vehicle had to be towed from the scene.Gill was cited for driving a vehicle at an unsafe speed.
