Carbon monoxide poisoning suspected

Possible carbon monoxide poisoning sent several occupants of a Tamaqua house to the hospital shortly after noon Friday.

The Tamaqua Fire Department and Tamaqua Ambulance were summoned to 158 Spruce St. for a report of family members feeling sick. The illnesses apparently had been ongoing since midweek.According to the Schuylkill Communications Center, a woman and her husband at that address had been treated at the hospital Wednesday after falling ill."Now they're back home and feeling worse," said the dispatcher.At least five occupants of the row house were evacuated, including at least three children. All were taken to St. Luke's Hospital - Miners Campus, some for treatment after falling ill, others as a precaution.Emergency responders at the scene said blood tests would determine if carbon monoxide poisoning, possibly from a furnace, was responsible.
