Jim Thorpe crash investigated

Jim Thorpe police are investigating a crash that happened Thursday evening at North and West Fifth streets that sent one man to the hospital and left charges pending against another.

Police Chief Joseph Schatz said the crash happened at 5:35 p.m. David Brown Jr., 44, of Nesquehoning, drove his a late model yellow Nissan Xterra onto West Fifth, hitting a parked pickup.Schatz said charges are pending against Brown. Brown's passenger, Michael Large, 46, of Jim Thorpe, was taken to Gnaden Huetten Hospital, Lehighton.Megan Rhoads said it was her husband Alan's truck, which was parked in front of their house, that was hit. Rhoads said she was watching the news on television when the crash happened."I heard tires squealing and then the bang," she said.She called 911. Borough police, the Jim Thorpe Fire Department and Lehighton Ambulance quickly arrived."My heart was pounding," she said. "There are so many kids on this street."
