Police: Man slugged girlfriend, mom

A Slatington man has been jailed after police said he assaulted his girlfriend and his mother, and then threatened his father with an aluminum baseball bat.

Zachary M. Wieder, 27, has been charged with three counts each of simple assault and harassment for an altercation inside his apartment Sunday afternoon.Wieder is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing July 21 at the Lehigh County Courthouse.He remains in Lehigh County Jail in lieu of $15,000 bail.According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by Slatington police officer Kevin Smith:At 12:11 p.m., Smith was dispatched to 113 Fifth St. for a domestic disturbance in progress, which stated that the caller's son threatened the caller and her family with a metal baseball bat, according to the affidavit.Upon arrival, Smith observed some kind of commotion going on in front of the address, at which time he separated the parties, and spoke with the victims.Wieder's girlfriend told Smith that she and Wieder were inside Wieder's apartment arguing. Wieder's girlfriend said Wieder grabbed her by the hair and shoved her to the floor. Wieder then punched her twice in the side of the head with a closed fist.Wieder's mother told Smith that she could hear screaming coming from the apartment while she was pulling into the driveway.She told Smith that she went into the apartment and observed Wieder yelling at his girlfriend, at which time she tried telling Wieder to relax, when Wieder pushed his mother to the floor and punched her in the side of the head multiple times.Wieder's father told Smith that he received a telephone call from his wife, who said that their son was fighting with her and the girlfriend. Wieder's father said he headed to Wieder's apartment.Upon arrival, Wieder's father said that his son grabbed a bat and attempted to strike him with it.
