'Bombed' Lansford man facing DUI

Lansford police have charged a borough man who told them he was "bombed" when he drove erratically down Abbott Street, then refused a blood-alcohol test.

They charged Timothy Doyne, 29, of 158 W. Water St., with driving under the influence (DUI) and reckless driving. He was arraigned before District Judge Casimir Kosciolek and released on his own recognizance.According to an affidavit of probable cause, here's what happened:At 1:57 a.m. May 3, officer Joshua Tom was helping Summit Hill police at a traffic stop on East Abbott Street. After the stop was over, police were standing beside their patrol cars when they saw a green minivan going south on Springgarden Street. The van made an erratic turn onto East Abbott, entering it from the wrong side of the divider. The van approached the area where police stood, veering on and off the street and almost hitting several parked cars.Summit Hill officer Joseph David, using a flashlight, pulled the driver over.As police spoke with Doyne, the driver, Tom smelled alcohol. Doyne's speech was slurred and he couldn't keep his balance."I am bombed, and I am refusing all your tests," Doyne told police.Police took him into custody and placed him in Tom's cruiser.Tom read him the chemical test warnings and report of refusal, and then asked again if he would submit to a blood test. Doyne refused, and signed a paper to document his decision.
