A 17-year-old male died in a one-vehicle crash early Sunday morning. His 17-year-old passenger was seriously injured.
State police at Schuylkill Haven said the crash occurred about 3:58 a.m. on Sunday, along Route 209, about a half-mile north of N. Keystone Road, in Porter Township.
Troopers did not identify the teen or where he lived. However, the county coroner's office said the teen was Antonio Rios. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Troopers said Rios was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt southbound when he lost control while negotiating a left hand curve. Rios was unable to gain control as the car crossed over the center line and entered the northbound lane. Once in the northbound lane Rios overcorrected his steering with the car sliding across the southbound lane.
The car then entered the east berm where it began to roll onto its left side and struck a tree with its roof. After impact the car spun in a clockwise rotation 90 degrees rolling over onto its roof where it came to rest in the center of the road facing northwest.
The male passenger was flown by medical helicopter to the Hershey Medical Center.
The investigation into the crash is continuing, troopers added.
