Tamaqua defeats Schuylkill Vy.

It's great to have a consistent offensive team when the post season rolls around.

The Tamaqua Blue Sox proved to be consistent and efficient as they scored runs in five of six at-bats on their way to a 10-5 win over the Schuylkill Valley Falcons on Wednesday night. The victory in the first round of the Schuylkill-Berks Legion playoffs, advances the Blue Sox into the winner's bracket semifinals of the double-elimination tournament. Tamaqua will host Pine Grove tonight at 5:30 p.m.Schuylkill Valley loaded the bases in the first inning, but couldn't cash in on the golden opportunity."We left five runners on base in the first two innings," said Schuylkill Valley head coach Ed Vaz. "I told the guys if we get another hit there it could have been a much different game.Winning pitcher Matt Roberts helped himself out, contributing a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning and Tamaqua never looked back. The Blue Sox' Adam Bates cleared the bases when he smashed a two-out, three-run double to extend the Tamaqua lead to 4-0 in the second inning. Bates also had two more base hits in the contest."This is a good hitting team," said Tamaqua head coach Todd Heisler. "The top of the order really produced for us today."Nate MacDonald is at the very top of the Tamaqua order. The box score shows that MacDonald didn't have a hit, but was a huge factor in the game as he walked four times and scored for runs for the Sox.Heisler also acknowledged Eddie Titus as being another standout for the Blue Sox, as he had two hits in the game."Eddie didn't get much playing time this season. He was crushing the ball in batting practice so I decided to get him in there today."Tom Gallagher and Jeff Yordy of Schuylkill Valley had two-run homers in the third and fifth innings respectively to help keep the Falcons in the ball game. Bobby Grigas added three hits batting leadoff for Schuylkill Valley."We've been up and down this season," Vaz said. "We started season pretty slowly, we've put together some good games and we still have baseball to play. The loser's bracket is tough but it can be done."It's probably the best total group of kids that get along together that I've had. I told them to keep their heads up. We'll come out tomorrow (Thursday) and see what we can do."Despite the Tamaqua victory, Heisler found areas that he thought his team could improve upon."Yes, we hit the ball well but we lacked hustle out there," said Heisler. "We're going to see some teams who really take this game serious coming up, and I hope we take it serious as well."Schuylkill Vy. 002 021 0 - 5 9 0Tamaqua 132 220 x - 10 11 0Hummel, Yordy (3), Moore (6) and Reese; Roberts and Bates.
