Jim Thorpe captured the District 18 9-10 South title to highlight Little League action on Friday.

LITTLE LEAGUEDISTRICT 18 9-10Jim Thorpe-FranklinJim Thorpe captured the South Division championship of the District 18 9-10 year-old Little league Tournament with a 19-7 victory over Franklin Township.Jim Thorpe, which stormed back through the loser's bracker of the double-elimination tournament, defeated previously unbeaten Franklin in back-to-back games. Thorpe will now meet North Division champ Valley West in a best-of-three series for the District 18 title.James Lordi was the winning pitcher for Jim Thorpe. He also had a strong game offensively with two hits and three RBIs.Also contributing to the winner's attack were Chip Baldassano (three hits, three runs scored); James Chimenti (two hits, two RBIs); and Spencer Hunsicker (two hits).For Franklin Township, Crum and Solt both had two hits.DISTRICT 18 11-12Towamensing-Valley W.Lance Book singled in the game winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning to give Valley West a 4-3 victory over Towamensing in the loser's bracket final of the District 18 11-12 year-old tournament.Valley West will now meet unbeaten Valley East tonight. A Valley East win will give them the District 18 championship while a Valley West win will force a deciding game on Monday.Towamensing jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a double by Matt Doherty, but Valley West rallied for a 3-1 lead thanks in large part to a two-run homer by Corey Zientek.Towamensing answered back with a long ball of its own as Luke Eitner continued his torrid tournament tear with a two-run homer in the top of the fifth.The scored stayed tied at 3-3 until Book's walk off single in the sixth that followed singles by Jake Marnell, Zientek and Gavin McGowan.In addition to the run-scoring hits by Doherty and Luke Eitner, Towamensing also got a pair of hits from Blake Eitner and one hit apiece from Brock Bollinger and Logan Kresge.Towamensing 100 020 - 3 6 2Valley West 010 201 - 4 10 0W - McGowan.
