To facilitate the effective and equitable distribution of the public funds from the Hotel Room Tax imposed throughout Carbon County, the Carbon Chamber and Economic Development Corporation created a Room Tax Allocation Committee (RTAC).

Twice annually, the RTAC provides releases to the media and places advertisements informing eligible nonprofit organizations in Carbon County of the availability of grants for tourism-related projects and soliciting their inquiries.

Following each deadline, the RTAC will convene to evaluate all applications that have been received and will record its recommendations for funding. In general, grant funding will be limited to not more than 50 percent of the total project cost.

The grant application deadline for the next round is April 30. The CCEDC is encouraging all nonprofit organizations with upcoming tourism-related projects to apply.

"This is a great opportunity for our nonprofit businesses and organizations in the county," says Marlyn Kissner, executive vice president. "It's time to start taking advantage of any funds that can help showcase your business."

The application can be found online at www.carboncountypa.org under "Hotel Tax Grants" on the left-hand side of the page. Applications may be dropped off or mailed to the CCEDC at 137 South St., Lehighton.
