Bears rout ESS

After its overtime loss to non-league opponent Whitehall on Saturday, Pleasant Valley knew the importance of getting right back on track.

The Lady Bears regrouped nicely for a 57-35 Mountain Valley Conference victory over East Stroudsburg South. Thanks to an impenetrable man-to-man defense and plenty of contributions from role players throughout their lineup, the winners raced out to a slight lead, before consistently increasing the advantage."We always know that South is going to give us a challenge," senior point guard Keri Dekmar said. "That's why winning this game is huge because it boosts our confidence and gives us momentum going forward in the league."Dekmar is just one of those role players, as she runs the point for the Lady Bears and also adds a potential scoring threat. She finished the night with 12 points, four assists, four steals and five boards.A loss to the Cavaliers the first time they played motivated the Lady Bears for redemption in this match up, as the intensity was apparent on the players and coaches' faces."I think the girls came out tonight and they played a complete game," said Pleasant Valley coach Nadia Gauronsky. "This was the first time that we played four quarters well."I was really proud of them because they did a really nice job tonight."A huge part of the Bears' MVC win streak is the cohesiveness that they are showing as they come into the home stretch of the regular season."They're really starting to know what they're doing out there on the court," Gauronsky said. "They're getting into a rhythm now where they're playing so well with each other. I'm happy for them."After the Cavaliers took an early 5-2 lead, the Bears put together a 15-8 run to end the first as Mackenzie Dorney scored seven. In the second frame, two Dekmar treys and six Jordan Meckes points continued to add to the lead as they moved to a 34-20 edge at the break. In the third, Cy Lippold rattled off four straight points to cut it to 12, but the Bears went on a 14-2 run to end the third, making it 50-26."We just didn't work hard enough to get good shots tonight," South coach Scott Cole said. "Pleasant Valley did. They worked hard to get good shots and they made them."ES SOUTHMaldanado 0-0-0-0, B. Poje 3-0-0-8, Steakin 3-2-4-10, Lippold 3-3-4-9, Wilson 0-0-0-0, K.
