A fire ripped through a home Thursday afternoon at 1252 Main Road, Franklin Township, causing extensive damage.

Firefighters from Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Company were assisted at the scene by Lehighton, Parryville, Bowmanstown and Mahoning fire departments.

The home was occupied by the Russell Eckman family, according to township secretary Brenda Neeb. The fire displaced the four residents.

Main Road was closed at Reber Street and also at Wagner Street for several hours while firefighters battled the blaze.

The closing of the road caused school buses to be rerouted for children living within that section of Main Road.
