Rush-Ryan seniors

The Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. held its first meeting of the year Jan. 14 at the Ryan Township Fire Company in Barnesville. There were 50 members in attendance. The business session was conducted by President Eleanor Schmerfeld. Chaplain Kathleen Valentine offered the invocation.Reports were offered by the secretary and treasurer and Melanie Weicker was thanked for her donation of coffee. Birthday greetings were offered to Doris Yeager, Gloria McHale, Betty Kunkle and Joanne Herring. Anniversary wishes were extended to Harry and Madeline Heffelfinger (45 years), Jim and Kathleen Valentine (64 years) and George and Thelma Carvello (63 years).The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of every month, at the fire company. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join.Street machinesThe Tamaqua Street Machine Association will hold a special meeting to discuss the future of the car lovers' organization. The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Jan. 26 at La Dolce Casa on West Broad Street in Tamaqua.All current members and anyone interested in cars are welcome to attend.Tamaqua alumniThe newly formed Tamaqua Area Athletic Alumni Association will meet at 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 27 in room 108 of the Tamaqua Senior High School.All former athletes, coaches and friends of TAHS athletics are welcome to attend. Information and assistance will be provided for service connected disability claims, low income pension, health care claims for service connected disabilities and low income veterans and other questions concerning veterans' benefits.The representative will be at Tamaqua Borough Hall, 320 E. Michael Frost will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Zion's Stone Church in West Penn Township. Sunday school classes are held at 10:30 a.m.A Bible study session is held from 10:30 a.m. to noon every Thursday.Zion LewistownThe Rev. Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service Sunday in Zion Church in the Lewistown Valley. The service will be followed by a covered dish meal and the annual congregational meeting.Souper Bowl Sunday will be observed on Feb. 2. All canned good items will be donated to the Salvation Army food pantry.
