Many schools throughout the area are delayed this morning because of the weird winter weather moving through the area.

Carbon County Head Start, Carbon Career & Technical Institute, Jim Thorpe, Lehighton, Palmerton, Panther Valley, Northern Lehigh, Northwestern Lehigh, Tamaqua, Our Lady of The Angels Academy, St. John Neumann, St. Joseph Regional Academy, SS. Peter and Paul, St. Jerome Regional and Weatherly schools are all operating on a two-hour delay today.

This is the beginning of the next wintry blast of arctic air that is slated to move through the region later today.

As the cold front pushes through, the water pooling on roadways will freeze, making travel even trickier.

Authorities urge motorists to use extreme caution during the rain because of ponding on the roadways; as well as when temperatures begin to fall.

Tomorrow will be the coldest day of the week as temperatures are not expected to remain in single digits, with wind chills of 20- to 30- below zero.

Anyone needing to be outside during the extreme cold should bundle up because hypothermia and frostbite to uncovered areas can occur quickly.
