Lehigh Carbon Community College is making sure students have the best opportunities at a quality education without breaking the bank.
To accomplish this, it has various scholarships available to help cover the cost of tuition.
Heather Mullen, assistant director of admissions and recruitment, highlighted two scholarships that LCCC offers. They include the Honors Scholarship and the STEM Scholarship.
The Honors Scholarship is available to students who are in the top 10 percent of their class, OR if they take the SATs and get a combined score of 1200 on the math and verbal portions, OR if they did exceptionally well on LCCC's placement tests.
"These are 'ORs' so one of these three conditions need to be met to qualify for this scholarship and the honors program," Mullen said, adding that the program takes a limited number of students.
"If you plan on transferring into a four-year school, this scholarship, which provides two years free tuition at LCCC, is a benefit because you may be able to get additional scholarships from the four-year school because of honors level courses on your transcript."
Mullen noted that the scholarship is available to Carbon residents and LCCC sponsoring districts.
The STEM Scholarship is a $5,000 per year scholarship funded by the National Science Foundation. It is available to students in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Mullen explained that the money is available in this grant, but students aren't taking advantage of it.
